Gang Abatement Program (G.A.P.)

G.A.P. is geared toward encouraging males between the ages of 11yrs – 30yrs old to develop various skills that can be a foundation for apprenticeships and internships in different areas. The program offers opportunities for young males to increase their skill base using mentors, who walk along side them during the process and act as teachers.

The first strata is lower level basic skills like fixing small motors, next is higher-level skills i.e. larger motors and so on. The Highest level of this program will involve working within a profit making business where they will be putting a product and/or service into the open commercial market.

Our program employs strategies such as the use of experienced leaders and well trained counselors to administer the program, and constant monitoring and supervision of youth with little unstructured group interaction, a reward structure which offers positive reinforcement to participants, and behavioral approaches which aim to shape the participants "morals" and encourage responsible decision making.

The trainers for this project come from our volunteer base and a minimal amount of paid instructors, one of the program goals is to recruit male instructor's who are also willing to mentor the males as they teach them viable skills.
